The Veneration of the Cross Service, observed on Good Friday, is a solemn and reverent gathering in the Christian tradition. During this poignant ceremony, worshippers venerate the symbol of the cross, the instrument of Christ's sacrifice. The service often includes scripture readings, hymns, and solemn prayers, creating a contemplative atmosphere as congregants approach the cross to express their devotion and gratitude. Through acts of reverence, such as kissing or bowing before the cross, participants engage in a tangible and symbolic demonstration of their faith, commemorating the profound significance of Christ's crucifixion and the redemptive message at the heart of the Christian faith.

St Peter & St Paul Edgefield

We have the newest church in the benefice, consecrated in 1884. The old church had fallen into such a state of disrepair that Canon Walter Marcon, whose father was rector here before him, decided to build a new church more - central to both halves of the village, The Street and The Green. This was quite an undertaking - come and visit and find out more!
