What we know about Saint James

The church at Norton juxta Kempsey is named after Saint James the Great; what do we know about him?

From the Bible we learn that James and his brother John were fishermen.

Luke’s Gospel tells how James became a follower of Jesus.

Once, James and John had fished all night and caught nothing.

Jesus stood on the shore and called to them to lower their nets once more. They did so and caught more fish than their boat would hold.

After this miracle Jesus asked them to follow him; immediately they left their nets behind and followed him.

James was one of the three closest followers of Jesus, along with his brother John, and Peter. He was present at some of the most important moments in Jesus’ life.

One thing we learn from Saint James is that when Jesus calls us to follow him, we should respond swiftly.
