Baptisms / Christenings

Baptism for babies and children takes place in a service often called a Christening. In this service parents thank God for his gift of life, make a decision to start their child on a journey of faith and godparents promise to help and support. The church also promises to welcome the child and to pray for the family.

For your child, being baptized at a Christening marks the start of a lifelong journey of faith as part of the local and worldwide Christian family. You promise to help your child(ren) to grow in the Christian faith and to be part of the local Christian church.

To help you carry out your promise to your child(ren) we hold a Family Service most months (please check the News and Events page for more information). It lasts for about 45 minutes and we involve the children (and adults) as fully as we can. I strongly recommend that you come along to the Family Services so that you can help your child(ren) learn more about Jesus' teachings, his life, death and resurrection, and how you might live out the Christian faith today.

If you would like your child(ren) to be baptised then please contact the parish priest - Fr. David Anderson - and he'll arrange the service with you.
