Ever wondered about prayer? Find out more! Pop into St Edward’s Church on 18th January between 10-11 am. An informal opportunity to browse/explore its many aspects at prayer areas whilst enjoying refreshments/cuppa ‘n’ chat. 2026 is to be the Diocesan Year of special focus on prayer
As it's no longer possible to staff Sunday services in every church across the Quantock Villages Benefice, each church has been reduced to 3 services per month. Rev’d Eleanor encouraged PCCs to think of these Sundays as ‘Opportunity’ Sundays rather than ‘fallow’ ones and challenged us to seek ways of growing our church. Goathurst PCC has sought to embrace this and, during 2025 stepped out in faith to take church out into the community. On two occasions it offered ‘Bag a Bacon Butty with a Squirt of Faith’ events in the village hall which have been well attended beyond our usual congregation. Other Opportunity Sundays included a Rogationtide walk; a led walk through Mill Wood with refreshments at the Temple of Harmony (by kind permission of Halswell Park); a Pets’ Service with a talk by Secret World; and an afternoon cream tea in the church grounds. We are already planning for continued development in 2026!Tim Hunt of Kids Alive International (one of Goathurst’s designated charities) giving a talk at Bacon Butty 2 in November
St Edward’s Church has partnered with easyfundraising, allowing you to raise free donations to the cause with 8000+ retailers. Please would you consider signing up to this scheme? It takes only a few minutes to register and can make such a difference at no extra cost to you apart from one extra click when you’re ordering! We have targeted this aspect of our fundraising specifically for SAPPP. The link is: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/st-edward-king-and-martyr-goathurst/ The project has been moving forward slowly, but we anticipate making huge progress in the next twelve months once we can go out to tender. Meanwhile, prior to a big appeal being launched, we are gradually accruing funds-the Old Iron collections have now topped the £800 mark! Thank you to all who have given scrap metal-the collections continue… There are also many other ways in which you can support St Edward’s Church in general and Ways to Give Cards are available in the church porch providing full details, please do take one. With thanks, Goathurst PCC
