World Day of Prayer – “I beg you, bear with one another in love.” The Christian Women of Palestine are calling us to connect with the land from where Jesus came; where he was born, ministered and died – and from where our faith began and is rooted. Despite living in an area of the world where there is dreadful conflict and the future is uncertain, the women of Palestine are sharing with love a reminder that they are there, and they want to give hope to everyone. The theme of the service this Friday ‘bear with one another in love’ seems very appropriate for these women who will not give up witnessing the love of Jesus Christ. World Day of Prayer is an international, inter-church organisation led by women which enables us to hear the thoughts of those women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns, and prayers. Our local gathering will take place at Emmanuel Church at 2 pm this Friday and we are encouraged more than ever, given the circumstances, to go along and join with the whole world in prayers for peace and reconciliation between Palestine and Israel. Loving God, walk with us as we journey through the land where you lived and taught. Open our eyes to see the present suffering of the inhabitants of this land. Grant us the strength and courage to act and pray with all who suffer around the world. Amen. Please remember in your prayers: Tony Ryan, Louise Clark, Rev Martin Keighley, Mark Price, Craig Abson, Peter Holden, Alan Morris & Rev Jane Everett. Please also remember the families and friends of, Colin Cook, Christine Jenkinson and John Richardson who have recently passed to glory.

Latest figures report 340, 000 people have been killed, severely wounded or are missing. There are 9.6 million Ukrainians who have been displaced, 6 million of whom are now classed as international refugees. With no end in sight there are several churches in Lancashire holding special “Prayers for Ukraine.” The nearest church to us is St Laurence’s Church in Chorley PR7 1EB where prayers will be held on Monday 26th at 6.15 pm. Everyone is welcome. You may wish to use the prayer above this coming week.Heavenly Father, hear our prayers for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. Lord, we ask for peace for those who need peace, reconciliation for those who need reconciliation and comfort for all who don’t know what tomorrow will bring.Lord God, we ask for you to be with all – especially children who are suffering as the crisis in Ukraine deteriorates. Lord for those who are anxious and fearful. For those who are bereaved, injured or who have lost their lives. And for those who have lost loved ones.Lord, we ask that decisions makers hear Your voice, we ask for wise actions from global leaders - who have the power not only to start wars, but to stop them too.And Father God we cry out for an end to this crisis. For mercy, peace, and truth – because You are light, hope, power, and love. Amen. Putting together the final arrangements to give thanks to God for the life of Dorothy Cox, we learned of the death of John Richardson. Two Christian souls who we love dearly and who we will miss for ever in this earthly life. Every death in a church family is a painful experience nevermore so when those concerned have made such an impact on so many others. For those of us left behind the grief is at times overwhelming. But it’s at these times we must hold on to each other and to what we really believe. Yes, it hurts, yes, it’s hard to come to terms with, but we’re minded of the words of St Paul, in his letter to the churches of Thessalonica when he says along the lines of, “try not to grieve like people who have nothing to look forward to, as if the grave were the last word. Since Jesus died and broke loose from the grave, God will most certainly bring back to life those who died in Jesus.” Death is not the end, but it still hurts! Teach me, O Lord, not to hold on to life too tightly. Teach me to hold it lightly; not carelessly, but lightly, easily. Teach me to take it as a gift, to enjoy and cherish while I have it, and to let it go gracefully and thankfully when the time comes. The gift is great, but the Giver is greater still. Thou, O God, art the Giver and in thee is the Life that never dies. Amen. Lent: We will mark the beginning of this most holy time with a service of Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes at 4 pm on Wednesday. On the following 5 Wednesdays at the same time, 4 pm, we will come together in the Broadway Rooms to enjoy Bishop Philip’s Lent reflections. Everyone is welcome to what will be a relaxed time of reading and reflecting on the scriptures. If you want to come but need a lift, please ring the Vicarage 874402 and we’ll sort it out. Please remember in your prayers: Louise Clark, Rev Martin Keighley, Mark Price, Craig Abson, Rev Jane Everett, Jeanette Norman, Joe Robinson, & Maureen Hardman. Please also remember the families of, Ronald Stanhope, Ray Kettle, Christine Jenkinson whose funerals are due to take place and our own John Richardson. 100 Club winners for January: Bernice Meekins, Moira Greenwood, Sue Dell, Christopher Ashworth, Elsie Mathias, Samantha Palinczuk, Ruth Aspinall, Dorothy Calderbank, Muriel Freestone, Margaret Forshaw, Nancy Burr, Gerald Mathias, Nancy Burr, Jennifer Gregson and Dorothy Angel.
