Through the ticket sales, the raffle and donations at the interval we raised a magnificent £1000. Sincere thanks go to Shirley Eracleous, The Dream Team Singers and Harmony & Health for performing such a wonderful repertoire. Also, to everyone who supported us on the evening and before-hand with ticket sales and raffle prizes. And finally, to Joanne, David and their helpers who hosted the evening on our behalf. These repairs are only made possible due to the ongoing generosity of so many of you. We are doing our best to preserve our magnificent building for future generations and we are forever grateful for your help. Giving God, we receive so much from you, and therefore have much to give. Help us toshare in the blessings of giving as well as the happiness of receiving, that your love may be more widely shared through Jesus Christ our Lord. We will be able to report next week how much we managed to raise.Harvest Sunday 9th October: Following our Harvest worship together, we will be serving a Roast Pork Dinner in the Broadway Rooms, followed by our famous Harvest Auction! We are charging £8 for lunch (£5 for children) and the proceeds from the day will be donated to the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal. This year the Diocese is supporting the work of the Mothers’ Union Literacy and Numeracy Project in Burundi. As one of the poorest countries on earth, with the majority of people living on less than £1.50 a day, by giving what we can, together we can make a significant difference to the lives of people in Burundi who are in desperate need. There are envelopes available at the back of church for donations. We will still receive the usual harvest gifts of dried foods, tins etc., some of which will be auctioned on the day. Items not included in the auction will go to the foodbank. Defibrillator Training: Save the date, Monday 10th October 6 pm in the Jubilee Room. If you need a lift, please just shout!Christian Bookshop: As you'll probably know, over recent years Christian bookshops have closed in many places: Preston, Lancaster, Blackburn, and at the end of last year CLC Bookshop in Blackpool. This is the pattern around the country. Fear not! After much preparation and in a room at Christ Church, there is now a bookshop and giftshop offering a range of books, gifts and CDs. The shop is called the 'Meadows Books' and is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. It's run by volunteers and payment can be taken by contactless, chip and pin, or cash. There’s also a coffee shop. Why not give it a visit?100 Club – Winners last week were John Quirk, Elsie Mathias, and Amelia Quirk Please remember in your prayers – Rev Jane Everitt, Tony Hardman, Rev Martin Keighley, Gillian & Elizabeth, Graham Armstrong, Cliff Turner, Chris Kelsall and Cath. It will be a real feel-good evening and so well timed after the grief and upset of these past days. Tickets are £5 each and are available from today from any member of the PCC. Roof Works: The bad news is that the work has been halted temporarily because what we thought was the problem isn’t the problem. The good news is that although we’ve had to go back to the drawing board, at least we won’t be spending £50,000 on the roof only to have the same problem! During this temporary halt in work, we intend to reopen the Church mid-week for private prayer from 11.00 am -12.30 pm. 100 Club – Winners last week were Gillian King, Margery Bond, and Beryl Clarkson.
