St Thomas à Becket

Welcome to the “Church Near You” pages which tell you something of the churches in Box. Our parish church is St Thomas à Becket in Church Lane, but we also have services in the small and delightful medieval building at Chapel Plaister. In addition there is very informal worship for children and those who are looking after them, once a month in the Community Centre at Rudloe, and worship for teenagers at TOAST.

The parish of Box is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer, PSO. The Diocese of Bristol’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.

Unless there is an exceptional reason, our main weekly service is at 1030 every Sunday morning. Usually, the service on the first Sunday of the month is lay-led morning worship; for a trial period this is being held jointly with the Methodist congregation in their church on the main road in Box. On the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of each month our service is usually Holy Communion in St Thomas a Becket church, and on the 4th Sunday there is a Lidbrook Group Communion which rotates between Box, Colerne and Ditteridge. If there are 5 Sundays in the month the extra service is used to try other formats. EXCEPTIONALLY, in March the Group Holy Communion is on 17 March, at Colerne. There is Holy Communion at Box on 24 March. For Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday see the separate panels.

We publish a weekly news sheet which can be found on our website at https://www.boxchurch.org/ . There is also news in Box Parish Magazine, published monthly in hard copy
