St John's, Waberthwaite

The welcome at St John's is warm and friendly. Our small congregation worship together on the first and third Sundays of each month at 9.30 using the Common Worship Communion Service, with Evening Prayer on the 4th Sunday at 6.00 in the summer months. singing is joyful. and quite often unaccompanied.  Our services last about an hour, with the offer of a cup of tea or coffee and a chat afterwards.  There are now accessible toilets in the Old Laundry, in the new churchyard.

In our churchyard stand the shaft of a Celtic cross, whose intricate design reminds us that Christ has been worshipped at this estuary ford since at least the seventh century. We are a community of vision with existing plans for the development of this site which will enable it to continue being a place where people encounter God for many generations to come.

The fascinating story of a Victorian invention still found in cities, towns and villages. You will have seen many hundreds of them, used them frequently and occasionally seen them with a woolly hat!
