About Us
Waberthwaite is a tiny rural community with a fascinating history to share. Occupying a quiet position beside the Eskdale estuary, and nestled in the farming hamlet of Hall Waberthwaite, St John's church is at the heart of the community it serves and is key to understanding nearly 2,000 years of local history. The small, but committed congregation treasures the simple beauty of the place and the spiritual ethos that generations of prayer has created. This warm and welcoming worshipping community are presently in the process of developing a project to preserve and interpret the history of the site and to create the facilities to enable it to be shared more fully. Richly rewarding of a visit at any time, St John's is especially beautiful in the spring when the Churchyard is full of flowers.
