Our Building
St. John's Church is situated in the small farming hamlet of Hall Waberthwaite on the estuary of the river Esk below Muncaster Fells. The origin of the building appears to be 12th century, although there may have been an earlier church on the site, as the shaft of an early Celtic Cross remains in the Churchyard. Within the Churchyard there is also a Listed Sundial, designed to be read on horse back. Other items of interest include the font which incorporates the capital of a Roman column, the carved pulpit which is tudor and the box pews which were installed in the early 19th century.
