St George and St Thomas', Hyde

St George with St Thomas’, Hyde serves the town and community of Hyde on the eastern edge of Greater Manchester.

We are one parish with two churches — St George’s on Church Street and St Thomas’ on Lumn Road — united by a desire to know Jesus Christ, grow in faith and share God’s love with the people around us.

At the heart of our life together is a commitment to following Jesus as we encounter him in the Bible, expressed through prayer, worship, teaching, fellowship and service. Our tradition is broadly evangelical, with an openness to the work of the Holy Spirit, and we seek to offer worship in which people of different ages, backgrounds and stages of faith can feel welcome and participate.

We believe that the Church is not simply a building or a Sunday gathering, but a family of people called to live out the Christian faith in the heart of the community. Through worship, pastoral care, fellowship, community activities and practical service, we seek to be a visible expression of Christ’s love within Hyde.

Our parish serves a diverse community, and we want to be a place where everyone is welcomed with warmth, dignity and respect. Whether someone has been a Christian for many years, is returning to church, is exploring faith for the first time, or simply wants to find friendship and community, there is a place for them among us.

Our vision can be summed up in three simple aspirations:

Being a family.
Seeing lives change.
Reaching the community.

As part of the Diocese of Chester and the wider Church of England, St George with St Thomas’ seeks to remain rooted in the Christian faith while responding faithfully and creatively to the opportunities and challenges of serving God in contemporary Hyde.

Above all, we want to be a church in which Jesus is known, people are valued, faith grows and the whole community is served in love.
