About Us
Welcome to the Church Near You page for the Abbey Church of St Mary the Virgin, Nuneaton. We are a parish church in the Diocese of Coventry, affiliated to The Society, and under the Episcopal care of the Bishop of Oswestry, standing firmly in the Catholic tradition within the Church of England.
Our magnificent church was consecrated in 1877 to serve the then (and now!) growing parish of Abbey Green, which was carved out of the parish of Nuneaton, St Nicholas. The 'new' building incorporated the remains of a twelfth century Benedictine Priory that was destroyed four hundred years later at the Reformation - so, ours is the church that put the 'nun' into Nuneaton and is a place rich in history. But it is the life of the Church here today that is the most important and the most beautiful thing. Here you will find a wonderful and welcoming Christian community, striving to live out and bear witness to the saving Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and be able to worship the Almighty with a passionate and faithful church.
Our church is your church, so why not come and join us on Sundays for our 10.15am Parish Mass or at any of our other services or social events. You will always find a warm welcome here.
