Longshaw Sheepdog Trials 29-31 AugustWe were delighted to welcome friends from the Longshaw Sheepdog Association to our service yesterday, and it was good to have them join us for coffee afterwards. We gave thanks for sheep, shepherds and their dogs, as well as the countryside in general. As usual, Sally the sheepdog was extremely well behaved and stole the show as she was blessed! We pray that the sheepdog trials will go well and that the weather will be kind to all.
A great time was had by all at the church choir Summer Fair, held in the Lawrence Hall in the Memorial Hall, Hathersage on Sunday 21st July 2024 from 2pm. There were lots of delicious cakes and scones to go with the tea and coffee which many people enjoyed. There were several stalls - books, bric a brac, tombola, cakes and a wonderful raffle with many prizes generously donated by local businesses and others. Pat Pierce won the "Guess the name of the teddy bear" with her correct guess of Marmalade which was presented by Glen Musgrave - see picture. From the church choir members, Heather Rodgers counted the money and did the tombola, Angie Ward conducted the raffle, Kay Furness managed the kitchen, Jenni Sugg dished out the cakes, Elisabeth Madden manned the cake stall, Chris Winfield produced the wonderful flower jars for the tables, Sue Wilson provided scones and bric a brac and lots of other people helped as well - thank you to everyone. Around £600 was raised towards the cost of new choir robes which we hope to have by Christmas. Many thanks to those who have already donated.
Welcome to the Peak PilgrimagesThe team from Eyam Church arranged the Peak Pilgrimage route through the White Peak from Ilam to Eyam in 2015. Then in 2020 the same team set up the Hope Pilgrimage route through the Hope Valley and the Dark Peak from Edale to Eyam. The Hope Pilgrimage is slightly shorter and much hillier than its older sister but they both operate on the same principles – a marvellous walk through the best bits of Derbyshire meandering from church to church and pub to café, reflecting on life and glorying in creation, while collecting stamps and sticky back Bible verses from the churches. Each pilgrimage has its own Guidebook, available to purchase on this website. Pick either one or, indeed, do the two together by starting with the Peak Pilgrimage and continuing through Eyam to Edale. What will you choose?
