St Mary's Barnard Castle

St. Mary’s is open to visitors every day during daylight hours.

Our service pattern has changed throughout the pandemic. Currently we are worshipping in church at 8.30am (Book of Common Prayer) and 10.30am

The parish is composed of the Churches of St Mary’s Barnard Castle and St Mary’s, Whorlton, and is in the Auckland Archdeaconry of the Diocese of Durham. It serves the market town of Barnard Castle and the picturesque village of Whorlton along with their surrounding areas.

St Marys Barnard Castle

As a traditional country parish we seek to be faithful in our worship of God and in sharing in His mission.  Many centuries of loving care of countless hearts and hands have given us a priceless heritage in our ancient buildings. We aim to embrace all with His love and can assure you of a warm welcome at any of our services and hope that you will feel something of the atmosphere of prayer, and thanksgiving which is so characteristic of our historic English churches if and when you visit us..

The parish of St. Mary's Barnard Castle with Whorlton is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer. The Diocese of Durham's safeguarding page contains vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser (DSA), who advises PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
