Our Priest in Charge, Revd. Catherine, and the congregation look forward to welcoming you to our regular Church Service.

At a celebration of the Eucharist, the community gathers, asks God’s forgiveness for its sins, listens to readings from the Bible including a reading from one of the Gospels. A sermon is preached and the community prays together. Bread and wine are brought to the the altar, the priest prays the Eucharistic Prayer, and everyone says the Lord’s Prayer together. The community then receives the consecrated bread and wine. At the end of the service, the community is sent out into the world as a ‘living sacrifice’ to live and work to God’s praise and glory.

We follow the service with light refreshments in St. Barnabas' Community Centre.

On Tuesday 17th February we are hosting a Pancake Feast in the St Barnabas' Community Centre. Drop in for a pancake between 5 and 6.30pm.
Free pancakes, although donations are accepted, everyone welcome.

Ash Wednesday is a holy day of prayer and fasting in many Western Christian denominations. It is preceded by Shrove Tuesday and marks the first day of Lent. Many Christians attend special Ash Wednesday church services, at which churchgoers receive ash on their foreheads.

Come and join us for our monthly Prayer and Praise Service. We sing modern hymns and share mediative prayers. It is an uplifting service and you are all invited. Held on 1st Monday of each month at 7pm in St. Barnabas' Church.

Sunday Communion service to celebrate and give thanks for Mother's and those who have been like a mother to us.

This service embodies the sharp contrasts of Holy Week. In the Entrance with the Palms we experience the joyous demonstration of loyalty to Jesus as he enters Jerusalem, including festive Palm Sunday music. This service is held at All Saints' Church in Penshaw.

It is therefore an informal service with Bible readings and moments of silent reflection.

Maundy Thursday is the day when we remember Jesus sharing the Last Supper with his disciples before his death.

Good Friday is the day when Christians remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. It is a sombre day. We meet for quiet meditation, to pray and reflect on the sacrifice Jesus willingly paid for all our sins.

Easter Sunday a time to celebrate because Jesus died for our sins and then rose again.
