About Us
St Mary the Virgin church in Gamlingay is open from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm each day in summer (4:00 pm in winter) for private prayer, to remember, for contemplation or to look around this beautiful old building.
- Please look under 'Services and events' for details of services and 'News and notices' for any changes to our opening times.
- St Mary's is part of Gamlingay's Parochial Church Council (PCC), which includes the church in Hatley St George and the churchyard at St Denis' church, East Hatley – as detailed below.
The Chapel of Hatley St George is a Chapel of Ease dedicated to St James the Great. It is open on request of the key from the farmhouse opposite the church.
Services for the entire benefice are held there every fifth Sunday between April and October – there will also be a Christmas Carol Service on Monday, 21st December 2026 at 7.00 pm and an Easter Service in 2027. For information about the church, please go to: https://hatley.info/hatleys-churches/hatley-st-george-church.
At St Denis' church in East Hatley, only the churchyard is consecrated and therefore open for burials. It is managed as a County Wildlife Site by a group of volunteers linked to the PCC of Gamlingay and the Hatleys.
The building was declared redundant in 1959 and later deconsecrated. It is now in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches and is opened every day from around 8:30 am to dusk to look round, to remember or for quiet contemplation.
