Evensong by fairy light to be climax of 150th Anniversary Year

We are delighted to announce the Choral Evensong Trust has given St Nicolas Church a grant to help fund a choir to a special service of Choral Evensong on Sunday 7th December 2025 at 6.30pm.

This service of Evensong - held amongst the twinkling of fairy lights as the church will be decorated for Christmas - will celebrate the patron saint of our church, St Nicolas, who was a bishop of Myra (southern Turkey) in the 4th century.

St Nicolas was the inspiration behind the person we know as Father Christmas, because he gave three gold coins to three girls who so poor that they were unable to get married. This is the origin of why we give presents at Christmas.

The renowned Octagon Singers of Ely Cathedral will lead us in a very special service or choral evensong. In this service the choir do most of the singing, though we will have two hymns in which the congregation join in.

This service will be the culmination of a year of activities that engage across the village from the school, the Gala and the Parish Council all in celebration of the 150 years since St Nicolas church was opened. The Bishop marked the 150th anniversary of the church on 30 March 2025.
