Concerts, recitals, folk music and talks will all feature at All Saints' Church, Down Ampney in 2022 when we celebrate the life of Ralph Vaughan Williams in the village where he was born. RVW is one of the most famous 20th century composers and his work - Lark Ascending - is regularly voted as being the most popular piece of classical music by the listeners of Classic FM.Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester have graciously consented to be our Royal Patron for our year of celebration in Down Ampney. The composer, Debbie Wiseman OBE has kindly agreed to be our President. We look forward to welcoming them and other visitors to our village and events. Our programme will begin in February 2022 with a special service of Choral Evensong for Accession Day when we shall mark the 70th Anniversary of HM The Queen's Accession to the Throne. Vaughan Williams was much influenced by folk music - and so some of our events will feature folk music. In June, Broomdashers and The Maniacs will be coming to perform 'From Pub to Pulpit' - telling the story of how RVW turned some folk music into hymn tunes. There will also be world-class performances of RVW's own work, and that of his contemporaries. We hope to welcome you to Down Ampney in 2022!
