We have at St Martin’s, Barholm with Stowe limited occasions to celebrate Holy Communion together in our church building.
Usually, this opportunity is only when there is a fifth Sunday in the month.

The exception to this is on Thursday May 29th at 7pm when, we will celebrate Holy Communion together for:

The Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Ascension Day is the 40th day of Easter, it occurs 39 days after Easter Sunday and is one of the earliest Christian festivals dating back to 68AD.

We read in the New Testament that Jesus Christ met several times with His disciples during the 40 days after His resurrection to instruct them on how to carry out His teachings.

On the day of His ascension, Jesus commissions His disciples to continue His work. He promises the gift of the Holy Spirit, and then He is no longer among them in the flesh. The Ascension is therefore closely connected with the theme of mission.

This season of joy and brightness is represented in our use of white or gold liturgical decorations and vestments.

Incense will be used during this service.

St Martin's Church, Barholm-with-Stowe

Dear Friends,

Thank you for taking an interest in the Church of St Martin of Tours, Barholm-with-Stowe.

Our next service in St Martin's Church, Barholm with Stowe will be on Sunday 2nd November at 6pm.

Fr Aran will lead us in a service for 'The Commemoration of the Faithful Departed' - Also commonly referred to as 'All Souls Day'.

The names of those to be remembered may be read aloud during this service, although some may prefer to remember those in the silence of our hearts, either way silence may be kept and Candles may be lit as a symbol of placing the persons being remembered into God’s safe keeping. If you would like the names of your departed loved ones read out in church, please add the names to the lists provided in church or email [email protected]

You will be warmly welcomed at the door by James and David, given a Traditional (BCP) Order of Service booklet to follow along with a Hymn Book.

We will follow Seasonal Scripture Readings from regular members of the congregation, these are taken from the Lectionary for All Souls Day. Both the Psalm and the two lessons have a similar theme: Comfort that God is always with us, Repentance, Reflection, Hope in the Resurrection etc.

  • Responsorial - Psalm 23
  • First Lesson - Lamentations 3. 17-26, 31-33
  • Second Lesson - +John 5. 19-25

After which a thoughtful reflection will be given by Fr Aran, Priest of our Seven Villages.

With love, and hope to see you soon,

Carole x
