On Sunday the 2nd November, we have a Service of Evening Prayer (BCP) when we remember All Souls Day also called The Commemoration of the Faithful Departed.

We will together, accompanied at the Organ by Julia in singing Five Traditional Hymns of Remembrance and Hope;

239 - Opening Hymn - "Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy" - The hymn's themes of hope, trust, and seeking God's presence at all times—including "waking" and "homing" at "the eve of the day"—are appropriate for remembrance and reflection.

186 - Magnificat To be Sung as the Hymn "Tell out my soul, the greatness of the Lord" - In place of the 'said' Magnificat.

331 - "Abide With Me" Chosen as its message of companionship in the time during and after loss has resonated with many generations.

381 - "Jerusalem the golden", This powerful hymn praises God's majesty and creation. Its uplifting nature can offer a broader perspective on life and death during a difficult time.

252 - "The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, Is Ended": A popular funeral hymn that beautifully articulates the unbroken praise of the Christian church, even as one life on earth ends and another begins elsewhere in the world.

Both the Psalm and the two lessons have a similar theme: Comfort that God is always with us, Repentance, Reflection, Hope in the Resurrection etc.

Please do Join us on this Evening.

The names of those to be remembered may be read aloud during this service, although some may prefer to remember those in the silence of our hearts, either way silence may be kept and Candles may be lit as a symbol of placing the persons being remembered into God’s safe keeping.

If you would like the names of your departed loved ones read out in church, please add the names to the lists provided in church or email [email protected]
