About Us
Welcome!
We are a small congregation of believers worshiping God in a beautiful, serene church that can seat around 50 people.
The building is nestled behind a small copse and two houses (one being the old rectory) and is out of site from passers-by travelling along the main B1203 road that skirts around the small hamlet of Swinhope.
The church building dates back more than 700 years and despite a major refurbishment in 1860 suffers today from some issues with small sections of the chancel ceiling, and we are seeking significant funding to make the necessary repairs.
Services
Being a 'Festival Church’ we only have six services p.a., and some of our congregation also worship elsewhere throughout the year.
Priest
We are indebted to Father Terry (the Rural Dean), who has been taking our services for several years, and continues to do so, ably supported by his very well-behaved dog Barney.
Building and churchyard
The church building consists of a west porch, nave with west baptistery, small sanctuary, rectangular chancel with north vestry, and a small tower with single bell. The plain drum shaped font - which is in the baptistery, and pre-dates the church itself - is believed to be the oldest feature in the church, dating from the 12th century.
The building stands within a quite large, beautiful and very tranquil churchyard which is still in use today for burials. If you would be interested in knowing more about arranging a funeral at St Helen's Church, then please contact Louthesk Deanery Office or one of our Churchwardens.
