The Kings Lute - a lute song recital by Musicke in the AyreWednesday 3rd May at 1.15pmTimea Gazdag, sopranoEsha Neogy, bass violDin Ghani, luteCelebrating Philip Rosseter, buried at St Dunstan’s 400 years ago.On 5th May 1623, Philip Rosseter was buried at the original church of St Dunstan in the West – he had been one of the lutenists employed by King James for nearly 2 decades, and resident on Fleet Street for 3. We mark this quatercentenary with a programme of songs from his Book of Ayres published in 1601, and sold at his house on Fleet Street. We also include some of his solo lute music, together with a few songs by his neighbours and colleagues John Dowland, Robert Jones, and Thomas Campion (who was also a very close friend). Timea, Esha and Din last performed together in March 2020 just before the lockdown, in a programme marking the quatercentenary of Campion’s death (and burial at St Dunstan’s).
