Sunday Evening Prayer (Book of Common Prayer)

Occurring
Every Sunday at for 45 mins
Venue
St Mary the Virgin, Monken Hadley
Address
Hadley Green Road, Monken Hadley, Barnet, EN5 5PZ, United Kingdom

Evening Prayer from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, said in traditional language with a sung hymn. On the third Sunday of the month it is Holy Communion according to the Prayer Book.

It lasts about forty five minutes. It is quiet, beautiful and unhurried, and you are very welcome whether or not you know the words.

Occasionally we keep a special service, so do check our church calendar. There is no evening service at Monken Hadley during August, when we join with other churches in the Barnet area.

St Mary the Virgin, Monken Hadley

Our fifteenth century beacon church stands on the northern edge of London, beside Hadley Common in one of the city's best kept corners of countryside. The parish reaches from East Barnet to High Barnet and bridges the two, past the village green, the almshouses, the three duck ponds and the white toll gates.

We celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday at 10.30, in modern language that keeps the cadence and imagination of the Prayer Book, with a choir and a fine organ. At 6.30 we say Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer with a sung hymn, and on the third Sunday of the month Holy Communion according to the Prayer Book.

Everyone is welcome here, and we mean everyone. Children are welcome at everything we do and nobody minds the noise. Through the year we keep the feasts and the dances that gather the whole community.

The church is open every day from 9 until 7. Come on a Sunday morning, too. There is coffee afterwards and no pressure to do or say anything.
