Churches Together in Whalley Range, Moss Side and Hulme warmly invites you and all your church congregation to join our Good Friday Walk of Witness in Alexandra Park.We will begin inside the Claremont Road – Alexandra Road South gate entrance and walk together through the park. Along the way we will stop at several points to hear the Passion story, pray, and sing together. The stopping points are shown on the event poster map (download here>>).This route is different from previous years, designed to make the walk safe and accessible for everyone and to add variety to our traditions. Please do come and join us as we walk, reflect on the cross, and enjoy fellowship together this Good Friday. We aim to gather back at St Edmunds, Whalley Range for a short concluding service at 11am ish.
A Rocha UK is a Christian charity working for the protection and restoration of the natural world. They have developed an award scheme for churches in England and Wales who want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth.By using the A Rocha supporting resources and completing their survey looking at how caring for God’s world is expressed in our worship and teaching; in how we look after our buildings and land; in how we engage with our local community and in global campaigns and in the personal lifestyles of our congregation.The actions we have taken as a Church counted towards the prestigious Eco Church Award at Bronze - we can now start working towards Silver or Gold level and plan future initiatives as a congregation.
St James launches as a ‘Place of Welcome’ this Tuesday, January 15th at 10.00 am. Councillor Mahadi H Sharif Mahamed, who is supporting this initiative will be attending too so please come along for free hot drinks, snacks and fellowship. There are five principles to a ‘Place of Welcome’, which our coffee morning already incorporates….Place: An accessible and hospitable building, open at the same time every weekPeople: Open to everyone, regardless of their circumstances or situation, and staffed by volunteersPresence: A place where people actively listen to one anotherProvision: Offering free refreshments (at least a cup of tea and biscuit) and basic local informationParticipation: Recognises that every person coming to a Place of Welcome will bring talents, experiences and skills that they might be willing to share locally.
