Church of England Diocese of Manchester St. George, Mossley

About Us

Welcome!

All people are welcome here. St George's church is a friendly place offering a welcome to ALL. This is a beautiful church ideal for weddings, baptisms and funerals. We are part of the Parish of Mossley covering the whole town, and with another worship centre at St John the Baptist Roughtown. The benefice incorporates the former parishes of Mossley, Roughtown and Micklehurst and is part of the Diocese of Manchester, which is part of the Church of England - follow the links to learn more about our faith.

At 11am on Sundays we celebrate the Parish Eucharist (on the 1st Sunday of each month this is an all age service attended by uniformed youth organisations). On other Sundays in term time, our Junior Church also meet, and regular events are held for them. Tea and coffee is available after our services.

The Eucharist (Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper, the Mass) is also celebrated at 7pm on Tuesdays (using the Book of Common Prayer on the 4th week of the month) and on major festivals and special occasions (see News).

At 9am on Tuesdays Morning Prayer is said at St John's - this is a short service, mostly consisting of scripture, psalms, and prayers. Holy Communion is celebrated at 10.30am on Thursdays at St John's (not held during August). We hold a half-termly Messy Church in two of our schools and have a monthly study group, which meets at St John's.

All enquiries should be made to the Vicar - see Get in touch.
