Getting here

A place of worship was founded on this site in 635 by Aidan (no trace of this wooden church is to found other than the beam in the Baptistry which has been miraculously preserved, however the site of Aidan's death is marked by a shrine within the present church. The present structure dates from the end of the 12th century. A squint, a fine reredos, and a memorial to the Victorian heroine are amongst some of the many treasures in this delightful parish church.
