St James the Great

St James's is a friendly Anglican church in Gretton, Northamptonshire, sharing community, clergy and events with St John's, Corby.  Our services are relaxed and welcoming: 

   SUNDAY SERVICES  

  • Morning Holy Communion every Sunday of the month at 9am 
  • Evensong third Sunday of the month at 6pm

   FRIDAY MORNING PRAYERS

  • first Friday of month at 10.15am (before Forget-Me-Not Cafe - welcoming those suffering memory loss or loneliness, carers, family and friends - Help and advice, with complimentary refreshments.)

   WEDNESDAY MORNING 

  • Holy Communion at 10am.

Everyone is welcome at our services and events and also to visit the church building and churchyard just to look around, explore and reflect. The church and churchyard are open everyday from 8am, but locked from 5pm (4pm in winter) except for services and special events,

  • Forget-Me-Not Cafe 11am, Friday 3rd October
  • Harvest Festival service 9am, Sunday 5th October. Donations to Corby Food Bank welcomed.
  • Church Gift Day Saturday 11th October. Coffee, cake and soup on offer in the church 10:30am-1:30pm. 
  • Music for an Autumn Evening - 7pm, Saturday 18th October. Organ recital and choir, to raise funds for the organ's refurbishment.  For more information on the mysterious 150 year history of our organ see here
  • Gretton Primary School Harvest Festival Tuesday 21st, 10am
  • Start of the Chapel Gym (Corby) 24/7 Prayer Adventure 101 Hours Wednesday 29th, 10pm Praise and Prayer – Tea, coffee & doughnuts from 9:30pm.  For more information, see details here

November

  • Family & Elderly Shoebox Appeal packing Saturday 1st , 2-4pm at Gretton Baptist Church (contents donations by 18th October - drop off at the Church). Organised for Link to Hope sending shoeboxes filled with items for disadvantaged families and elderly folk in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine.
  • Closing worship 101 hours of prayer (at Chapel Gym) Sunday 2nd, 9pm
  • Start of weekly Mini Choir club Wednesday 5th, 5:45-6:45pm
  • Remembrance Day Service Sunday 9th, 3pm Gretton Baptist Chapel followed by parade to the War Memorial for the laying of wreaths (after the 11am service at USAAF Spanhoe Airfield Memorial with Military Vehicle Display). Organised by the Gretton and District Royal British Legion Holding Branch.
  • ‘A Night to Remember’ service  Wednesday 26th, 7:30pm - a short, simple service for people who have lost a loved one and experiencing grief with the opportunity to reflect, pray and light a candle.
  • Coffee morning Saturday 29th, 10:30am-1pm. Coffee, soups and a very warm welcome.

December

  • Christingle Service Sunday 7th, 9am
  • ‘Carols by Candlelight’ Sunday 21st, 3:30pm - a service of lessons and carols - come along and join in the festive singing
  • Christmas Eve Crib Service Wednesday 24th, 4pm
  • Midnight Mass Wednesday 24th, 11pm
  • Christmas Day Service Thursday 25th, 10am at St John’s (Corby)
