Responding to the financial challenge of Covid-19
During this difficult time - when our church buildings have been closed and, although some are able to now return to church in person, we cannot collect offerings in the normal way, nor conduct other fundraising activites are usual - we are still a church; loving our neighbours by offering practical support to the vulnerable, caring for our communities and seeking to be at the frontline of responding to this crisis.
The work of our churches is reliant on people’s generosity. We give to our church in a variety of ways, but with the closure of all our buildings we cannot receive all the gifts that we usually would.
Due to Covid-19, most (if not all) of our income from weddings that were due to take place in 2020 will now be lost in addition to all Sunday service collections until our services are allowed to resume. On top of this, our room hire income from St Luke’s Parish Room will also be severely affected. Added together, our income is likely to fall by c £20,000.
Meanwhile, our running costs and expenditure have remained the same: we are still required to pay fixed costs such as buildings insurance and maintenance, and our ‘Parish Offer’ to the Diocese (which they use to pay clergy, clergy housing and mission costs, and which includes an element of subsidy for poorer parishes). More information about the way that the Diocese uses our Parish Offer can be found in Appendix 2 by downloading the document at the bottom of this page entitled 'Financial documents and forms'.
This is why we really need your help!
If you feel able to give a one-off donation, or to consider setting up regular giving, we would be extremely grateful. If this is the case, details of how you can give are listed below.
Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to support our local congregation and community during this crisis.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
(For more in depth information on our finances, please see Appendix 1 by downloading the document at the bottom of this page entitled 'Financial documents and forms'.)
WAYS TO GIVE
The simplest way to give is by clicking here to donate online via our Service Provider, ‘Give a little’. You will need your credit card details handy.
Giving by Standing Order
If you usually give by envelope or via cash in the collection on a Sunday in church, please consider setting up a regular gift by Standing Order. This can be stopped at any time, for example, if you wish to return to giving by cash or envelope once communal worship is resumed.
For the purposes of setting up a regular gift via your online banking, the Church bank details are:
Account Name: Chiddingstone Parochial Church Council (St Mary’s)
Sort code: 40-20-35
Account number: 21079220
Account Name: Parochial Church Council of Chiddingstone Causeway (St Luke’s)
Sort code: 60-21-28
Account number: 71344950
Please put your name in the payment reference so we know the gift is from you. This is particularly important if we have a signed Gift Aid mandate from you.
Alternatively, you can fill in a Standing Order mandate and return it direct to your bank by post, or to the Treasurer, Ian Coleman, at Flat 2, Emmetts House, Ide Hill, Sevenoaks, TN14 6BA.
And if you haven’t done so already, please also sign the Gift Aid section of the form if you are a UK taxpayer so we can enhance the gift by claiming back the Gift Aid.
Standing Order mandates for both St Luke's and St Mary's can be found in Appendix 4 & 5 by downloading the document at the bottom of this page entitled 'Financial documents and forms'.
Make a one-off gift via your online banking
If you do not wish to set up a regular gift, you may wish to make a one-off gift instead. For example, you may choose to make a donation for the value of your usual weekly giving over the course of the next 12 weeks. Or you may already give by Standing Order, but feel able to make an additional one-off donation to support us through this time. Any gift you make, however large or small, will be greatly appreciated.
Again, use the bank details listed above and please use your name as the reference for Gift Aid purposes. If you haven’t done so already, please also sign the Gift Aid form if you are a UK taxpayer so we can enhance the gift by claiming back the Gift Aid.
Send a cheque payable to either St Mary’s Chiddingstone or St Luke’s Chiddingstone Causeway
As before, any gift you make, however large or small, will be greatly appreciated. Cheques can be posted to Ian Coleman at Flat 2, Emmetts House, Ide Hill, Sevenoaks, TN14 6BA.
Please click on the 'Financial documents and forms' pdf below to download further information on finances and support costs. This document also contains the Standing Order mandates and Gift Aid declaration forms for both St Luke's and St Mary's.
