St Mary Magdalene, Walkeringham

***SEE THE NEWS & NOTICES SECTION FOR DETAILS OF CHRISTMAS SERVICES AND EVENTS. LOOK FOR THE FULL LISTING TO FIND DETAILS OF ALL THAT'S ON IN EACH OF THE CHURCHES IN THE BENEFICE***

The Church is currently closed but there was a service to celebrate both the Patronal Festival of this Parish Church - the Church’s ‘birthday’ - and the first steps towards re-opening after nearly two years closed in July. Closure was due to a fall of material from the roof in 2018.

This has been repaired so the Parish Church was safe for the opening service! But there is more work to be done.

The intention is to hold occasional services, once a new vicar has been appointed. Currently, there are no churchwardens and no Parochial Church Council so services are not possible.

The Diocese is aware of the difficult season that church communities have faced in these past months and is therefore especially grateful for the extra care extended to Walkeringham parish from neighbouring churches. The Archdeacon of Newark looks forward to discerning the opportunities for new ministry and relationship between the church and its community and welcomes local support in this.

Look out for announcements about the appointment of a new vicar in due course. For the full story, see the News & Notices section.

Meanwhile, Walkeringham residents are very welcome at services at any of our other churches across the Oswaldbeck Benefice (Beckingham, Clayworth, Gringley, Misterton, and West Stockwith).

SERVICES RE-STARTED
Across the Oswaldbeck Benefice, church services have re-started on Sundays or Wednesdays (in Misterton). Other churches are also open for private worship. They are:

Daily, Clayworth 10.00am - 4.00pm
Sundays & Wednesdays, Misterton, 10.00am-4.00pm (Wednesday service of Morning Worship, 10.00-10.30am)
Thursdays, Beckingham, 10.30am-3.30pm
Daily, West Stockwith, 10.00am-4.00pm
Daily, Gringley, 10.00am-4.00pm.

Across the Oswaldbeck Benefice, churches are taking the relaxation of Coronavirus restrictions very seriously. Wearing a face covering is still recommended, along with use of hand sanitiser, and the NHS Test & Trace QR code (or completing the register of attendance). All the pews have been opened, but people attending church are advised to sit where they can maintain distance between themselves and anyone not in their 'bubble'. Holy Communion is delivered in one kind only and singing may be limited. This will be updated shortly.

See the post in News & Notices giving further details of services, when and where. If you're going into one of the churches, everyone is urged to be cautious. In addition to the above, please remember that if wishing to light a votive candle in memory of a loved one, bring your own lighter or matches.
