REV LIZ MACK JOINS THE OSWALDBECK BENEFICE Liz's Licensing and Installation Services was on Monday 29 September. For anyone who didn't make the service, here's what was printed in the Order of Service about Liz. Liz grew up in Edwalton and West Bridgford, suburbs of Nottingham, and would not have claimed any interest in faith until the age of 40, other than being a Jehovah’s Witness as a very young child until the age of about 5 or 6. She joined the family business of retail bookshops, and, later, hospitality with multiple coffee shops, at the age of 20, and worked in this until she left the business after the pandemic in September 2021 to begin theological training at St Melitus College in Nottingham. Liz would have called herself a sceptic, especially regarding faith, and after a challenging time in her marriage, which sadly ended in divorce, she finally agreed to go to an Alpha course at her mum’s church in Ruddington, Nottingham, in 2013/14. She would say her love of a good meal drew her there, but looking back she could see the hand and love of God inviting her into a deeper life of relationship with Jesus, and, after getting baptised at age 41, she joined the church in Ruddington and never looked back! Liz has a passion for ‘making God possible’ to people of all ages and backgrounds, but especially those who have been outside of the church and faith for most of their lives, helping them to see that nothing in their experiences of life is wasted; God can use everything for his glory and our good! She also loves taking people on a journey of discipleship outside of Sundays and is excited by what God will do in the lives of those she is called to serve in this new season. Liz has developed a love of rural churches and their communities after serving her curacy nearby for the last two years and is often sharing just how much life and joy can be found in the villages she has come to know and love. You will often find Liz around a table sharing a meal and the invitation of Jesus, but she also enjoys open water swimming, walking in the countryside here in the rural communities, and debating what’s happening in the world around us with her twin daughters, who have just completed their degrees.
