Stations of the Cross followed by Lenten soup lunch.

During Lent, Stations of the Cross followed by a Soup Lunch on Saturday mornings at 11:30AM for approx. 60 mins (30 mins Stations of the Cross and 30 mins Lunch).

All donations collected during each Saturday’s Lenten Soup Lunch will be sent to our nominated charity.

This year, our parish has chosen to donate to

Parish/Benefice Lent Course including Compline (Night Prayer).

Stations of the Cross.

During Lent, there will be a 5.00pm Stations of the Cross followed by a Low Mass at 5.30pm.

Barnsley Deanery Lent Course at St. George's Church, York Street, Barnsley.

Led by The Ven. Cat Thatcher, Archdeacon of Pontefract.

Every Wednesday Evening in Lent, beginning on Wednesday 25th February 2026 at 7.00pm.

A Chrism Mass for the the Society of Wilfred & Hilda parishes in the Diocese of Leeds with the Rt Revd Stephen Race, Bishop of Beverley.

Service includes the blessing of the three oils — the oil of catechumens, the oil of the infirm and holy chrism — which will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the coming year.

During this mass, the priests, deacons, and people gather around their Bishop, who blesses the Holy Oils for use in the coming year. These are: the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of Catechumens & the Oil of Chrism. These oils are used in Baptism, Confirmation and Ordination as well as for Anointing of the Sick. Whenever the Holy Oils are used over the year the ministry of the Bishop, who consecrated them, is symbolically present.

The Chrism Mass reminds us of our oneness in Christ through Baptism and holy anointing, made possible by the ministry of the Bishop and his priests. The Chrism Mass is also the unity of the Bishop with his priests and people with the wider Church. During the liturgy, deacons and priests renew their vow of obedience to their Bishop and their commitment to serve God’s people. At the end of the Chrism Mass, the Holy Oils are brought back to parishes of the See for use in the coming year.
