For many people, leaving a gift in your will, otherwise known as a legacy, is a final opportunity to make a lasting gift to God. It is also a way to make a lasting difference to the future of your church and community.
Leaving a gift in your will is an important decision to make and one that deserves careful thought and consideration. Writing a will is essential to make sure your estate is taken care of and goes to support the friends, family and causes that you care most about.
Would you consider leaving a legacy gift to our parish?
There are two types of gifts. A residuary gift is a percentage or share of the balance of your estate once all other payments and gifts have been made. Many people prefer to give a residuary gift because it keeps in line with inflation and does not lose value over time. A pecuniary gift is a fixed amount of money.
In your will you can specify the type of gift (residuary or pecuniary), and whether you wish your gift to help fund the ministry and mission of our parish, or you can specify that you wish your gift to be used for a restricted purpose, for example, “the maintenance and upkeep of St John’s church in Fladbury”.
When the time comes, we will discuss the use of your gift with your executors, considering your stated wishes and the church’s priorities at the time.
Our formal parish name is “The Parish of Fladbury, Hill and Moor, Wyre Piddle, Cropthorne and Charlton”. This legal name must be used when specifying the name of the beneficiary in your will.
You can then add additional specifications, sometimes called a Letter of Wishes, if you want to describe any restricted purposes. We ask that you make your wishes clear.
We will acknowledge your gift in the way you and your executors feel most appropriate. Equally, we can make sure that your gift remains anonymous, if that is your stated preference.
If you would like to talk to someone in confidence about your gift, please contact the parish treasurer (see footer).
