Helpful Information about what to expect at St Kenelm's

Visiting St Kenelm’s Church

Opening Times

St Kenelm’s is usually open and unlocked on weekdays during daylight hours (times vary with the seasons). You are warmly invited to come in, explore, pray, or simply enjoy the peace of the building whenever the doors are open.

Practical Information

Parking

Parking is limited but not impossible.

  • A few decent spaces are available near the church entrance.
  • Additional parking can be found further along Chapel Lane.
  • For larger occasions (e.g., weddings and funerals), extra space is made available.

Access to the Building

Please take care when entering or leaving the church. The main entrance does not have level access.

Toilets

An external toilet is located behind the church. It can be opened on request during service times.

During Worship

Seating & Comfort

  • You are welcome to sit, stand, or remain seated—whatever is most comfortable for you.
  • Traditional wooden pews are used, and a space near the entrance can be arranged for wheelchairs or for those who prefer more room.
  • Heating keeps the church warm during services, though the building may be cooler at other times.

Hearing & Understanding the Service

  • A fully functioning hearing loop is available.
  • Services are conducted in English.
  • If you would like sermon texts emailed to you, please contact Revd Chris.

Children & Young People

Children of all ages are warmly welcomed. Please don’t worry if they are noisy or active—they are a blessing to us.

Holy Communion

  • Gluten-free wafers are always available—just let the priest or a welcomer know.
  • Non-alcoholic wine is not currently offered; you are welcome to receive only the bread.
  • We use the chalice and do not allow intinction (dipping the wafer).
  • Anyone baptised in the Christian faith is welcome to receive communion.
  • You may also come forward for a prayer of blessing.
  • Communion is received kneeling or standing at the altar.
  • If you prefer to receive only the bread, that is absolutely fine.
  • If you find it difficult to come forward, communion can be brought to you—please let the priest know.

Service Length & Flexibility

  • Sunday Holy Communion and Evensong last around 1 hour.
  • Weekday services last around 30 minutes.
  • Festival services vary. You are always welcome to arrive or leave quietly whenever you need to.

Who Is Welcome?

St Kenelm’s is an Inclusive Church. Everyone is welcome—there is no dress code and no expectation that you must be familiar with church traditions.
