The Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of England have urged everyone to follow the instructions given by the Prime Minister to stay in their homes in a national effort to limit the transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
It means all Church of England church buildings will close with immediate effect in line with the Government’s instructions. There will also be no Church weddings or baptisms. Please contact Rev Simon Elliott if you wish to discuss future baptisms, weddings or funerals on 01377 271592 or email him: [email protected] Further updates will be provided in due course.
HOWEVER, the Church is at its heart not a building but a bunch of people who love God and seek to serve their community. St. Peter's Church family is continuing to "be" and to serve, we're just having to learn about doing that in a whole new way at the moment, just as everyone else is.
We are a warm, welcoming and lively Church family, all age groups are represented in our regular congregation.
Our Sunday morning services are normally at 10.45am. The first Sunday morning of each month we have a Family Service (sometimes with a baptism), featuring our worship band, Revelation. An informal Family Communion, also featuring the band, takes place on the third Sunday of each month.
The second and fourth Sunday morning features our robed Choir (which is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music) for a service of Choral Praise.
The evening services are at 6:00pm in the spring and summer months (changing to 4.00pm in the winter months). They are more traditional in style, the Choir sings two evenings of each month, there is a Choral (Common Worship) Communion on the second Sunday and a Book of Common Prayer Choral Evensong on the third Sunday.
Book of Common Prayer Evensong, with hymns (but no Choir) is on the first and fourth Sunday of each month.
St. Peter's seeks to serve its local community seven days a week, and we have various events and activities through the week, such as Bell-ringing on a Monday evening, Revelation band practice on a Thursday evening and St. Peter's Choir rehearsals on a Friday evening.
We also host a local choir, "The Driffield Cadenza singers", who practice in the Church building on a Wednesday evening.
