Wimbish Church and its Bats feature on BBC Essex Radio

Revd John Saxon was interviewed by the BBC Essex quest team on Sunday 31 July as Wimbish church was the answer to one of the program's clues..  The clue was 'Make a sudden decision about Justin Welby.  Here you may worship a rounders truncheon.'  Would you have solved the clue?  It may help to know we are home to 6 different species of bats in the church and we have been support by 'Bats in Churches' project to help us live more sympathetically with them over the past few years. Earlier this year we had a very successful bat evening with over 50 people attending.  We first enjoyed a BBQ and then listened to an interesting bat talk from the Essex Bat Group before exploring the church and grounds with Bat Detectors.  This is one of a few activities and events we have had this year along an Eco Theme.  We have had an Eco Afternoon tea to explore the church grounds and in particular the moths living there.  In June some people attended a 'Caring for God's Acre' workshop too.  This is all part of our work as an Arocha Silver Award Eco Church.

You can listen to the program on BBC Sounds here https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0ckqk1n until the end of August
