Swift awareness week was at the beginning of July and the eco team went to the church to see if the swifts had returned. We were treated to an acrobatic display and a ‘fly past’ by two pairs of swifts. There were also swallows and martins. It was a joy to see!
Also noted was one of the tulip trees in flower.(see picture above)
Monday August 11th.
The Fun Day Picnic was a great success. We all enjoyed Elaine’s ‘shaggy dog’ story and the children were keen to find the hidden ‘dogs’. There was much looking around and observing and the find of the day were 2 red kite feathers. It was good to be joined by a family from St Mary’s and to see new friendships being made.
Sunday September 28th
If you were in the churchyard today you might have noticed crosses on the ground made with fircones and other natural materials. We had a Quiet Afternoon and before it rained we had a wander around the churchyard and this was an activity we undertook.
Monday September 29th
A swarm of hornets was spotted by the beech tree. We made sure that they were not Asian hornets which are distinctive with their yellow legs.
Saturday January 24th 2026
It is always a pleasure to spend time in our beautiful churchyard, and twelve of us enjoyed counting a wide variety and good number of different species during this year's RSPB Birdwatch on Saturday 24 January. We were blessed with a beautifully clear sunny morning, if somewhat chilly, and doubtless that helped to boost what we saw. The pair of resident red kites didn't disappoint, flying very low to give us a good view and some of us also saw a pair of buzzards and one very active kestrel. Afterwards we all enjoyed warming up with a hot drink.
