Welcome to the website for the Parish of St Thomas the Martyr, Oxford.
St Thomas is a Church of England parish, close to the heart of the city. It is the 12th century mother church of west Oxford, under the patronage of St Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, martyred in 1170. We are proud that St Thomas himself travelled through our parish on his journeys between Beaumont Palace and Osney Abbey.
St Thomas the Martyr has a long and colourful story and remains very much the parish church for the people of this part of central Oxford. Today, the clergy serve the parish jointly with the parish of St Barnabas, Jericho, which was itself created out of the ancient parish of St Thomas the Martyr in the mid-19th century. .
On Wednesday at 12.30pm, there is a short lunchtime Mass which lasts about 20 minutes. The clergy are always available, for conversation or advice, before or after the services.
