Hargrave Cross Country 10k & 5k Fun Run (5k walk) 2024 This was our 5th village run and we were delighted that over 100 people entered, a record! We chose to share the proceeds between Hargrave Church and Suffolk Sight. Suffolk Sight is the sight-loss charity for Suffolk (Registered Charity 1183608). Their purpose is to improve the lives of people affected by sight loss, throughout Suffolk. They work hard to provide services that are friendly and practical, and to raise awareness of the different aspects of living with sight loss. Hargrave Church helps tackle hidden isolation in Hargrave. Its important for us, as a village church, to be seen to be supporting other charities, as well as asking for support ourselves This year the route was altered slightly to enable to the start and finish of both runs to be close to the village hall. The weather was good old March weather, sunshine one minute, hail storms the next, but this did not deter our runners and walkers! Our volunteer marshals stood by their posts through it all and we give a huge thank you for those who helped. Several stepped up at the last minute enabling us to go ahead First and second in the 10k went to Nick Smith in 44 mins, and Lawrence Porter with 45 mins. The juniors shone in the 5k, with Ryan Middleton, aged 14, coming home in 22’57”, closely followed by Frederic Sibbring, aged 11, in 23’43”. Special mention must go to our own Mia Wenbourne, first female 5k, at only 12 years old, in 28’49”. The winners received a beautifully decorated hamper in a wooden wine box, with Hargrave Honey, Henry’s eggs, Nethergate Wine and Powters Sausages, with the runners up a Powters Cool Bag and sausages or Easter eggs. The teas, organised by Jill Upton, featured a triumphant range of cakes, especially the coffee cake in the village hall and raised an additional £150! Overall we raised £1,126, which is a record amount for a small community, thank you. Next years run will be on the 22nd March – please Save the Date!
