Borin will talk about Ipswich’s historic lettering and ghost signs on the streets we merrily pass by without even noticing. He uncovers hidden urban archaeology and shares fascinating stories & long lost tales that’ll probably have you bumping into other people and lamp-posts, as you go and discover what he found.

Borin Van Loon, British author, painter, illustrator and comic book artist has been photographing examples of old lettering on the walls of buildings in and around Ipswich since the 1990s. In this talk, Borin will focus on a wide range of signs and lettering which evoke the rich past of Ipswich and its people, which adds to the story of the town’s development from an ancient port to a major industrial town and commercial centre. The talk will also include material from contributors to the Ipswich Historic Lettering website, a special project devised and developed by Borin.

Donating
St Mary Magdalene church is Grade 1 listed, over 900 years old and, century after century successive congregations have kept it maintained, repaired, renewed and open as a place of worship. Please help us continue that work by donating.

St Mary Magdalene is part of the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) - an easy, secure way to give - which is simple, reliable, and removes the weekly hassle of cash and envelopes. There are 3 ways to give:
1. Scan the QR code to go straight to the PGS page
2. Call the PGS team on 0333 002 1271  Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm
3. Download the PGS gift form for St Mary Magdalene, fill in and post.

Alternatively you can give a one-off donatation very easily to the Tower Appeal

The Church receives no financial support from the government or any other public funding body and is therefore very grateful for any support you're able to give. Thank-you.
