Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Giles' Church
Address
Park Lane Ashtead, KT21 1EJ, United Kingdom

A Tenebrae service takes its name from the Latin word for 'darkness' or 'shadows'. It is a solemn service, reflecting on the events of Holy week through readings, psalms, music and silence, and sharing in Holy Communion. Our service will include the stripping of the altar and the gradual extinguishing of candles until only a single candle, considered a symbol of Our Lord, remains, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.
