Our large and beautiful church has a long history, dating back to the legendary St. Bertelin in the 8th Century. The building which you see today was commenced almost exactly 800 years ago and it is the second oldest building in Stafford. The roof is about 500 years old. This church was one of the first churches restored by Gilbert Scott in the 19th Century. There are 10 bells in the tower, which can be rung as a peal.Rector Rev'd Prebendary Richard Grigson
Services at St Mary's:
0800 Said Eucharist following an adapted form of the Book of Common Prayer
0930 Sung Eucharist The priest is assisted by three servers and another minister. Common Worship Order one is used. Members of the congregation read the first two lessons, administer the Chalices and lead intercessions.
1130 On the last Sunday in the month we hold Holy Baptism. Up to four children are baptised during this service.
1830 Evening Worship
Wednesday 1.05 Eucharist Thursday 10.05 Eucharist 2nd Thursday each month 1.05 Service of Prayer for Healing, Rest & Peace
We are situated in the town centre and within easy walking distance of several pay car parks. You are most welcome to any of the services shown above or to visit during the week (11 AM to 2 PM during most days) when the church is kept open by volunteer stewards.
We receive a large number of weekday visitors (more than 10,000 visitors in a year).
