A memorial service was held in Saint Mary’s Church followed by the blessing of a commemorative bench in the churchyard in memory of Steve Priest who played bass guitar for The Sweet.Born 23rd February 1948 Steve attended Dr Triplett’s School and was a member of the choir of Saint Mary's Church. The service for Steve Priest who died at the age of 72 on 4th June 2020 will be held on Wednesday 23rd February at 11am.He made his first guitar himself with the help of his dad. His first performance was at "St Mary's Parish Hall" one Sunday night in 1964.The Sweet were described as a 1970s glam rock band, with the original line-up consisting of lead singer Brian Connolly, drummer Mick Tucker, lead guitarist Andy Scott, and of course the author of the book, Steve.He is survived by his wife, Maureen, three daughters, Lisa, Danielle & Maggie and 3 grandchildren, Jordan, Jade & Hazel.
