From the Churchwarden in May's Lurgashall NewsMay marks two very important landmarks in the Christian calendar – Ascension Day and Pentecost. Ascension Day (40 days after Easter) celebrates the bodily ascension of Jesus into heaven, marking the completion of his earthly ministry and his exaltation to the right hand of God, and Pentecost (50 days after Easter) commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, often called the "Birthday of the Church", enabling the mission to spread the gospel.Together, these moments in the calendar encourage us to pause and reflect on renewal, purpose, and the sense of shared journey that shapes our life as a village. May often feels like a turning point in the year - lighter days, new growth, and awelcome lift in spirit - and Ascension and Pentecost sit naturally within that rhythm. As we move through the month, they offer a reminder of hope, connection, and the importance of supporting one another as a community.See the link for the rest of the Churchwarden's May article plus lots more goings-on in Lurgashall.
