Opening

St Peter's is open daily from roughly 9am to 5pm.    We occasionally have a problem finding a volunteer to open the church so if you want to check please contact our administrator or our Priest in Charge.

The ancient building of St Peter's is one of three beautiful, holy, historic churches that have served the local communities making up the modern-day Parish of ASCAT for centuries. The other churches are St Barthomew’s in Albourne and Christ Church in Sayers Common. Saint Peter's is a rural church at the end of a lane surrounded by fields and next to the small Church Primary School. The Church was built in 1516 and is reputed to be the first brick-built Church in Sussex. The tower contains 5 bells and they are rung before the Sung Eucharist on the 4th Sunday of the month.

These churches are sacred spaces where heaven and earth have met in Christian worship, prayer and fellowship since Norman times. They have been places of celebration and solace; of marking the rites of passage of life; and of countless generations meeting with God in private prayer and public worship.

St Peter’s and it’s sister churches are kept open during the day with an invitation to you to step inside to rest, reflect and, if you so wish, to make your own encounter with God and to say some prayers.

SUNDAY SERVICES at 10.00am

Our churchmanship tradition and style of worship are inclusive ‘Middle of the Road’, aiming to embrace the spiritual needs of as broad a cross section of the community as possible. There is a choir and short sermon that addresses contemporary issues from a Biblical perspective. The service lasts for about an hour and you are welcome to join us for coffee, tea and a chat afterwards.

ASCAT is an inclusive parish that believes in a church which does not discriminate, on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race or sexuality. We believe in Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.
