Before you get married in a church, you need to have your Banns read in the church where you live and the church where you will get married, if different. This is to make the marriage public and allow anyone who knows a reason why the marriage should not take place to speak up. The Banns are read on three consecutive Sundays in the three months prior to the wedding. You are more than welcome to visit us on a Sunday morning to hear them read.As well as having the Banns published, couples are required to fill in forms and present documents such as their passport to the Vicar. Don't forget these important pre-wedding tasks, and book your appointment to speak to the Vicar in good time before the wedding day. email our administrator Angela on office@batterseafields.org or ring 020 7720 9076
What is a djembe drum? A djembe is a skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands. It originated in West Africa, and its name comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which translates to "everyone gather together in peace" and defines the drum's purpose. Our children's djembe choir is based on this idea of children gathering to play music and to sing together, to listen to each other and cooperate, and enjoy their creativity. As well as learning musical skills they learn self-discipline, team spirit and leadership. In September the choir started their after-school classes in St George's Church, under the leadership of Mark Dowling, Battersea Fields Parish music innovator. They have their first performance on October 31st at the Light Party. They will also be accompanying the Battersea Park Christmas Choir at the parish Carol Service on December 10th and playing at other Christmas events. In order for more children to take part in the choir, the church is raising money to buy more drums and to run the sessions into next year. If you would like to support this opportunity for local children you can give through the www.batterseafields.org giving page.
