Bible Reading
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in[ you.
John 14 : 16 - 17
Thought for this week
How quickly time flies! Today is Pentecost Sunday, the great celebration of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and the extraordinary promise for all believers in Jesus for the Lord to be with us when we believe.
It also means the year is progressing fast. We’re nearly in summer! I wonder what plans you had for this year? I wonder what plans have already been fulfilled?
On our Gospel reading Jesus is speaking again at the Last Supper, and He is looking to the future. More than this, He is speaking of the Father’s love for the world and all the Father will do. The ‘works’ of the Father to bring transformation and hope, healing and peace, through Jesus.
With the coming of the Holy Spirit, all of the Father’s plans have been fulfilled. With the death and resurrection of Jesus, believers can now look to a new future and a new hope.
Time passes quickly. Our days do not seem so long. Yet Jesus calls us into the life of the Holy Spirit, and into the future that He is bringing. He is the one who gives us purpose and life. He is the one who enables us to value each day as a gateway to the future. He calls us forward, to trust and believe. Paul

Faithful God, who fulfilled the promises of Easter by sending us your Holy Spirit and opening to every race and nation the way of life eternal: open our lips by your Spirit, that every tongue may tell of your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
