The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28 : 5 - 6

Thought for this week
This is the day of Jesus’ resurrection. The day of His triumph and victory. The day of all days where the Lord reveals His sovereign power, His mercy and his love. Jesus has poured out His love and his life for us to receive forgiveness and new life in Him. Halleljuah!
In Matthew’s Gospel the disciples witness the angel rolling back the stone, but Jesus has already gone. It is the Resurrection from our perspective. For a moment the peace of the early morning garden is shattered. The guards are terrified. There is a violent earthquake. Jesus’ resurrection has broken with the past, torn up the old order of sin and death, has shaken the earth and human history to its very core.
Then the angel says to the women, ‘Do not be afraid’. A new Peace has come into the world. For all those who believe this Is a new beginning of hope and light. The presence of the angel underlines the emptiness of the tomb. showing us how death could not hold Jesus. Then hurrying, the disciples met with Jesus Himself. He is alive!
I pray we can each experience the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection for ourselves. To know we can trust in Him for everything. To hear Jesus’ own words to us, ‘Do not be afraid’.

Prayer for this week
Lord of all life and power, who through the mighty resurrection of your Son overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in him: grant that we, being dead to sin and alive to you in Jesus Christ, may reign with him in glory; to whom with you and the Holy Spirit be praise and honour, glory and might, now and in all eternity. Amen
God of glory, by the raising of your Son you have broken the chains of death and hell: fill your Church with faith and hope; for a new day has dawned and the way to life stands open in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
We give thanks for…..
