Thought for this week
Roads in Jesus’ time were essential means of communication. They were the ways news spread, communities were connected, and important things were shared. They were also dangerous places. Travellers put themselves at risk.
In our Gospel reading the travellers are disciples of Jesus, disconnected from Him by the events of Good Friday, and not yet reconnected by His Resurrection. Yet unknown to them, Jesus travels with them. He listens, and helps them to understand all they have seen is the Lord’s plan and purpose. Jesus’ death and Resurrection was foretold, and His will is sovereign.
Today we celebrate Eve’s baptism, and we pray along with her Mum and Dad that she will grow to know Jesus walking with her all her days, and that He loves her. In baptism she becomes part of Jesus’ plan and purpose, and has so much to discover of His love for her.
We each have so much to discover in Jesus’ love and His resurrection hope.
Our roads are not always straight or predictable. They are even risky sometimes. Yet Jesus walks with us, even when we may not recognise Him. He shares with us His Risen life as He calls us to walk the roads and make His love known.

Prayer for this week
Almighty Father, who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples with the sight of the risen Lord: give us such knowledge of his presence with us, that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life and serve you continually in righteousness and truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
Risen Christ, you filled your disciples with boldness and fresh hope: strengthen us to proclaim your risen life and fill us with your peace, to the glory of God the Father. Amen
We give thanks for…..
