Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14 : 12 - 14
Readings this week Acts 7 : 55 - end; 1 Peter 2 : 2 - 10; John 14 : 1 - 14
Thought for the week
There has been a lot about relationships in the news lately. Relationships between nations, particularly with the King’s visit to USA. Relationships between people of different faiths and none, highlighted by events in London. Relationships within communities, highlighted by the local elections.
In our Gospel reading Jesus tells us if we ask anything in His name, He will do it. This is astonishing! Anything?
Yet the key to Jesus’ words lie in those He speaks just before this. He has been speaking of His relationship with the Father. The Trinity is a community of love between Father, Son and Holy Spirit. A community we are called into through faith in Jesus. This is the most amazing and precious truth that In His love for us, the Lord calls us to Him, to belong to Him and to join in with His purposes for the world.
This is the context for our faith and for our prayers. Anything we ask in faith will stem from this relationship with the Lord and from within His heart of love for the world and for all people. We have this immense and undeserved privilege. To belong to Jesus and reflect His love in the world. Can you reflect on what this means for you today?

Prayer for this week
Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: grant that, as by your grace going before us you put into our minds good desires, so by your continual help we may bring them to good effect; through Jesus Christ our risen Lord, Amen
Risen Christ, your wounds declare your love for the world and the wonder of your risen life: give us compassion and courage to risk ourselves for those we serve, to the glory of God the Father. Amen
