Thought for the week starting Sunday 25th October 2026

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22 : 37 - 40

Readings this week Leviticus 19 : 1 – 2, 15 - 18; 1 Thessalonians 2 : 1 – 8; Matthew 22 : 34 - 40

Thought for this week

Today is Bible Sunday, and we give thanks for God’s Word in our lives, and the revelation of Jesus the Living Word throughout the Bible.

Our life today is so full of words. So often today just a few words can have a huge effect, either to build up or to knock down. A few words can sometimes stay with us our whole lives, and can even sway the course of history.

Yet no human words can ever be as powerful as the Word the Lord has given to us and speaks into our lives day by day. God’s word to us is given to encourage, inspire, challenge, and above all make us more aware of the Lord’s presence, His values and His truth and the gift of His grace.

So many have sacrificed themselves for us to be able to read the Bible. Still today the Bible is seen by so many people as a precious gift.

How do we treat this gift? However we come to the Lord each day, the Lord meets with us through His Word. With healing, with challenge, with inspiration, with comfort, with compassion, and with love. Through the Bible we have assurance of the Lord’s voice and His truth in our lives, and the presence of Jesus the Living Word.

Prayer for this week

Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: help us so to hear them, to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word, we may embrace and for ever hold fast the hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Merciful God, teach us to be faithful in change and uncertainty, that trusting in your word and obeying your will we may enter the unfailing joy of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

We give thanks for…..
