Thought for the week of 24th July 2022

‘So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.

For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Luke 11 : 9 – 10

Thought for the week

We were so pleased to host the Junior School Year 6 Leavers service at St Ed’s this week. Year 6’s are aged 11, and it was a real privilege to pray for the youngsters who have endured so much disruption and confusion during the Pandemic, and who have persevered with their learning and built the skills that will equip them as they go on to High School.

We reflected with them on their journey through life, and how Jesus Himself loves them, goes with them, and has already given them so much of what they need to grow as people.

In our Gospel reading the disciples come to Jesus asking, ‘Teach us to pray’. These are men (and women and children) who have been praying since childhood in their family gatherings, in the synagogues and temple, even each day. Now they ask Jesus to teach them to pray. In other words in the life – changing, sincere, open and honest way He prays to the Father.

We are all on our journey still. The Lord calls us to continue to grow as people, to build our skills and discover our gifts, and to learn to be like Jesus. We are all still growing. We are all still called to ask and to receive from Jesus each day.

Prayer for this week

Emmanuel -
Give us the perseverance and courage to seek out and approach you wherever you are to be found;

Grant us the vision and understanding to see and recognize you
whenever we might meet you;

Gift us the grace and generosity  to respond freely and fully
whatever you might ask of us.
